A pediatric root canal, or pulpotomy, is a procedure used to treat an infected or damaged baby tooth. Rather than removing the tooth, we treat the inner nerve (pulp) to relieve pain and preserve the tooth until it’s ready to fall out naturally.
This helps your child:
Avoid early tooth loss
Maintain proper spacing for adult teeth
Chew and speak normally
We may recommend a pulpotomy if your child has:
A deep cavity affecting the nerve
Tooth pain, sensitivity, or swelling
A dental abscess
Trauma or injury to a tooth
We numb the area with local anesthesia
Remove the infected or inflamed pulp from the tooth
Clean and seal the area
Place a protective crown over the tooth (typically stainless steel)
We’ll keep your child comfortable and informed at every step.
Root canals can sound intimidating, but for children, the process is often quicker and gentler than parents expect. At Harrison Pediatric Dentistry, we use calming techniques and kid-friendly explanations to ease anxiety and make the experience smooth and stress-free.
We’re honored to serve the next generation of healthy, confident smiles. Whether it’s your child’s first appointment or their next routine checkup, we’re here to help.
